SILICAMORPHOUS |
|
Three local glass artists, with very different styles, will be collaborating for a new show at the Mad & Noisy Gallery for the month of July 2009.
The show’s title, Silicamorphous captures the essence of the show by combining silica (the medium used in glass) with the amorphous nature and variety of the works displayed. |

Steve Collier has been creating stained glass art in his Avalon Clearview Studio for twenty years, this will be his first public gallery show. “To this point I’ve been capturing client’s concepts and executing them my way,” says Collier. “With this show I’ll be unveiling some of my own concepts. Located as I am on the Niagara Escarpment overlooking Devil’s Glen Provincial Park and a particularly breathtaking portion of the Mad River Valley, my inspiration comes from melding the lines, details and colours of the nature with the window space. My style is to incorporate considerable detail and complexity in my designs so that people see something new with every viewing.” |

Beth Grant creates lampwork beads by melting colourful glass rods in a flame and winding the molten glass around a stainless steel mandrel. Working out of her Beads on Broadway studio in Orangeville, Grant incorporates her beads into stunning jewellery and gift items such as pens and letter openers. “For this show I’ll be making some new necklace, bracelet and earring sets that incorporate many more handmade beads than my everyday collections. I’ll focus on three colour combinations – funky ‘citrus’ (orange and green), a summery Arctic blue and a more classic soft grey-blue and dusty green. |

Eleanor Brownridge also works as a stained glass artist, but for this show she will be exhibiting some of the larger fusion glass pieces that she makes at her TurtleCreek Art Glass studio in the Pretty River valley. “Fusing glass lets me play with shape as well as colour,” says Brownridge. “I started out making one-of-a-kind serving dishes, but many of my clients said they were using them primarily as décor pieces. So now I’m concentrating on undulating wall sculptures made out of fusion glass.” “ New to this show will be my series of women, inspired by South African art. I’ll also be exhibiting my new line of custom-made coffee tables.” |
